1. Welcome
*************************************************************************
Eventually, after long discussions, I am pleased to start the StateWORKS
newsletter.
This Newsletter will be published irregularly and will contain information
about VFSM concepts and StateWORKS products. I plan also a technical section
which will contain a kind of white papers about VFSM/StateWORKS details.
I hope you will find the content informational and beneficial. Please feel
free to send me your feedback to ferdinand.wagner@stateworks.com or info@stateworks.com.
Regards
F. Wagner

2. Improved Web site at www.stateworks.com
*************************************************************************
We have just moved the www.stateworks.com Web site to our new provider.
The Web site has been also improved in respect of the navigation and the
content. If you have not visited us recently I encourage you to do it now.
You may find new and interesting information.

3. Papers
*************************************************************************
In our effort to spread out the VFSM concept and StateWORKS tools we
managed to publish two papers:
- F. Wagner, P. Wolstenholme: “Real-Time Software Design Tool” which
appeared in “IEE Computing & Control Engineering Journal”, February
2003.
- F. Wagner, P. Wolstenholme: Modeling and Building Reliable, Re-usable
Software” which will be presented at ECBS’03 in April 2003 and published
in its Proceedings. The preprint of the paper is available on our Web site
in the Download section.

4. SWEdit
*************************************************************************
We have a new version 4.0 of the StateWORKS Editor. The Editor has
undergone a major revision and contains a lot of new features and improvements.
The most important new part of the editor is the SMS diagram which
is the graphical representation of the State Machine System.
A free demo version of the editor is available on our Website in the
Download section.
*************************************************************************
5. SWMon
*************************************************************************
We have now a new version of the StateWORKS Monitor, which will soon
be available. The new features of SWMon are:
- TCP/IP interface. Some time ago the RTDB library was expanded by adding a TCP/IP interface and the new library has been named SWdb (StateWORKS data base). SWdb still has the DDE interface as in the transition period it will be used for links with SWMon. The new SWMon makes the DDE interface obsolete.
- Debug mode. The VFSM Executor has now a Debug mode. The Debug mode
for a state machine allows a stepwise test: meaning one state transition
at a time. SWMon allows you to use the Debug mode by setting the state
machine(s) into Hold mode and performing step by step operations. Control
of the Debug mode is achieved by additional radio buttons (Run, Hold, Step)
arranged for each state machine. The Debug mode may be applied to a single
state machine or to any number of state machines simultaneously.

6. Technical Note
*************************************************************************
The technical note The
Virtual Environment and Positive-Logic Algebra is provided as a PDF
document on the StateWORKS web-page.
